Special Convention to Elect the 14th Bishop Diocesan

We give thanks for the opportunity to come together in the presence of the Holy Spirit to elect the 14th Bishop of Virginia. The Electing Convention will be held in person on June 4 at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria.

Registration 

All delegates must registration online. Attendance is open to all canonically resident clergy of the Diocese of Virginia, duly elected lay delegates, and ex-officio lay members of Convention. Lay alternates and clergy under license will not be able to attend in person. However, the proceedings will be livestreamed both in English and Spanish at www.virginiabishopsearch.org.

Translation will be provided on site for Spanish-speaking delegates. Special headphones will be provided by the translation provider. Please let us know in advance if you wish to access live on site translation so that we may reserve an adequate number of headphones.  

Registration will close on Friday, May 27. On-site registration will not be available. There is no registration fee for Convention. If you choose to order a boxed lunch, the fee is $20.

This will be a one-day Convention. View agenda. If you wish to stay overnight June 3, hotel blocks have been reserved. Hotel information. The deadline to reserve in the Convention hotel block is Friday, May 13. 

COVID Protocols

All registered delegates will be required to wear a well-fitting mask while for the duration of the meeting. The only exception will be while eating lunch.

Masks are required regardless of vaccination status or individual risk. No proof of vaccination or testing will be required.

Voting 

All voting will be conducted electronically on site. In order to vote, all delegates must bring a mobile device that has access to the email address which you provided in your registration. Read instructions on How to Vote Using Election Runner (English) (Spanish). Delegates will not have access to vote remotely. Only in person voting via mobile device is allowed. 

Delegates are encouraged to attend one of the Meet and Greet events with the bishop nominees and/or tune in via livestream to one or more events. These events will be held around the Diocese May 20-24.

Rules of Order

Delegates should familiarize themselves with the updated 2022 Rules of Order (English) The Rules of Order are also available in Spanish.

This is a marked version to indicate the changes in the proposed Rules of Order for the 2022 Electing Convention from the Rules of Order for the 227th Annual Convention in 2021.

Certificates of Election 

All congregations' Certificates of Election for Convention Lay Delegates are due April 15. If a congregation does not submit certificates before the Electing Convention, your lay delegates to last November's Annual Convention will remain your delegates for the Electing Convention. Congregations that submit by April 15 will have the same delegates for Electing Convention and the November 2022 Annual Convention. Questions? Contact Bill Martin.
