The Rev. Dr. Sarah Kye Price
The Rev. Dr. Sarah Kye Price is the Interim Vocational Development Minister for the Diocese of Virginia. In this role she manages the ordination process, stewarding the Commission on Ministry’s canonical responsibilities to “design and [oversee] the ongoing process for recruitment, discernment, formation for ministry, and the assessment of readiness therefore.” She supports the Commission on Ministry (COM), its sub-committees and related programs, including the Committee on Discernment, The Young Priest Initiative, the Committee on Priesthood, the Committee on the Diaconate, Mid-Atlantic Parish Training Program, Diocesan Board of Examining Chaplains, and The St. Phoebe School for Deacons.
Sarah is a blended vocational priest, professor and social worker with a heart for preparing people to serve the church and the world. Originally from Western New York, Sarah attended SUNY College at Buffalo (BSW ‘92) and Syracuse University (MSW ‘93) and worked in health care, hospice, and bereavement support. She relocated to St. Louis to attend Washington University (PhD ‘05) where she met her spouse (Michael) and later expanded their family with daughter Cassandra. Sarah and family moved to Richmond in 2006 when she joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she will continue to serve bivocationally. During her years at VCU, she has served in faculty and administrative roles, most recently as Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Social Work. Sarah discerned her call to ordained, blended vocational ministry here in the Diocese of Virginia. She is a graduate of the low-residency MDiv program at Church Divinity School of the Pacific (MDiv ‘18) and subsequently served as Deacon and Missioner to Monroe Park with Grace and Holy Trinity, Richmond (2018-2019) and Priest Associate at St. Mark’s, Richmond (2019-2022). Most recently, Sarah was invited back to CDSP in the role of St. Margaret’s Visiting Professor of Women in Ministry during Spring and Summer 2022. Sarah has been regularly working with diocesan vocational development staff and committees through St. Phoebe School for Deacons where she will continue to serve as local formation director. Sarah is excited to join our diocesan staff in this expanded capacity as we work together to grow and deepen the work of vocational development throughout the Diocese of Virginia.
