Clergy Retreat: How to Flourish in Challenging Times

The Rev. Dr. Elaine Heath will lead three plenary discussions on “How to Flourish in the Time of Covid and Political Rancor.”

minister in the United Methodist Church, she is the former Dean and Professor of Missional and Pastoral Theology at Duke Divinity School. She left Duke to co-found Neighborhood Seminary, a non-profit which provides theological, practical, and spiritual formation for lay people.

The retreat format will also feature small group discussions, time for personal reflection, and plenary sessions.  Full agenda 

Dr. Heath will lead three sessions on these topics:

Session 1: Healing the Inner Fragmentation

In this session, we will consider the impact of cultural fragmentation on the soul, and spiritual practices to heal the fragmentation.

Session 2: One Anothering

In this session, we reflect upon the need to turn to others in times like these, our resistance in doing so, and spiritual practices that can help us support and strengthen community.

Session 3: Participation in the Sacred Dance

In our final session, we focus on the life of kenosis, or participation in the missio Dei, as a source of renewal and deep joy.
