The Rev. Dr. Mary Thorpe
The Rev. Dr. Mary Brennan Thorpe serves as director of Transition Ministry, assisting parishes as they say farewell to their pastors and seek new ones. She also works with clergy as they seek new calls. She is particularly interested in encouraging discernment and creativity in the search process.
Joining the staff at Mayo House on October 1, 2014, Mary brings to her role the experience of careers in public policy, in entrepreneurial ventures in high-technology and in public education as a music teacher. She was most recently rector of the Church of the Epiphany, Richmond; she also served as interim at St. Gabriel’s, Leesburg. She has served as chair of the Diocese’s Committee on the Diaconate and as dean of Region XI. Mary holds degrees in music from New Jersey City University and the University of Hartford and has completed post-graduate studies in business at Stanford University through the American Electronics Association. She received her doctorate in Church and Ministry at Columbia Theological Seminary, focusing on the search process. She is married to the Rev. Douglas Thorpe, Ph.D., and is the mother of five adult children and grandmother of four, and enjoys knitting and cooking in what little spare time is left.
