On Friday, May 11th, the choir at St. Peter’s in the Woods Episcopal Church will join with Messiah United Methodist Church of Springfield and members of the NOVA Community Chorus in an evening concert at Washington National Cathedral; a collection of music for Evening Prayer that also highlights texts and prayers for Ascension.

The concert will be a collection of music for Evening Prayer that also highlights texts and prayers for Ascension. Music includes modern and traditional choral pieces by Vaughn Williams and John Rutter.  Also included are the spiritual Ride On, King Jesus by Moses Hogan and a stunning composition Evening Prayer by Ola Gjeilo, with soprano saxophone.  The music is presented in the magnificent setting and superior acoustics of the National Cathedral. 

The Messiah choir is led by Jessica Irish, Director of Music Ministries.  Chad Steffey is the Director of Music at St. Peter’s in the Woods and also leads the NOVA Community Chorus. Both will be featured as conductors.  John Kocur, a reknown local jazz musician, will be the soprano saxophone soloist.

The concert begins at 8pm on Friday, May 11, 2018.  The cathedral is located at 3101 Wisconsin Ave., NW.  The concert is free and open to the public.  There is parking in the garage at a flat rate of $7, or free and metered parking on the street.
