Fortson 5K Race

St. Margaret's Episcopal School

The St. Margaret’s School Alumnae Association will host the Fortson 5K race on Saturday, October 14, 2017, welcoming runners and walkers of all ages to the dog- and stroller-friendly event. Last year, nearly 100 people participated in the event, held annually at the St. Margaret’s campus and in the surrounding area.

“Fortson 5K is fun for the entire community. People come together in a beautiful place, and in a healthy way for a great cause,” shared Mary Anne Townsend Hopkins, St. Margaret’s Alumnae Association President and alum from the class of 1969. “It’s a mini reunion for alums. We can visit before the race or during the race if you walk with me and after the race because I won't be winded! It’s an opportunity to meet students and staff, network with friends, get some exercise, and contribute to St. Margaret’s. Please join us!”

Fortson 5K, formerly the Rappahannock River Run was renamed to honor the legacy of Margaret Frances Fortson a St. Margaret’s School alumna from the class of 1965, whose unwavering support and love for St. Margaret's is immeasurable. Now in its 19th year, the event is a local fall tradition that draws participants from the entire region.

The 3.1 mile flat, fast course begins and ends at St. Margaret's School, takes racers through Tappahannock’s historic district, and alongside the Rappahannock River. Registration includes a race t-shirt and is $25 per person with a discount rate for groups of 6 or more. Register online and view the course map.
