Related Organizations are those whose charters or statements of purpose have been reviewed and approved by the Executive Board and whose status as a Related Organization shall have been approved by the Council of the Diocese. Virginia Diocesan Homes, Inc. This board establishes and maintains liaison between the Diocese of Virginia and the homes for the elderly under its aegis. It seeks opportunities in the Diocese to encourage or provide seed resources for new facilities for the elderly across the spectrum of residential needs. It elects members of the boards of the houses and maintains general oversight on behalf of the Bishop of the homes and their services to their residents. Henry R. Diocesan Missionary Society The Society was established to purchase and receive real estate, to hold and manage property and to develop various programs of support for the extension of the missionary work of the Diocese of Virginia. Bloomfield, Inc. Begun in the 1920s, this group offers grants to meet the special needs of disabled children and adults. They receive donations from church outreach programs, individuals and secular institutions, which are invested with the Diocesan Missionary Society. Mrs. C. Diocesan Fund for Human Need DFHN was established in 1989 by the 194th Annual Council as a voluntary fund to provide one-time grants (seed money) to local churches, clusters of churches, or regions, for programs, which address human need. Particular emphasis is placed on volunteer hours and local supervision as well as accountability. Since 1989, this fund has disbursed 106 grants totaling $474,456 for programs addressing human need. Education for Ministry Education for Ministry (EFM) is a comprehensive four-year program based on the core curriculum of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Lay persons meet weekly with a mentor to become confident in a thorough understanding of Scripture and the Christian tradition, to learn to find God's presence in everyday life and to decide how to live in response to that presence.
