Regional Board

Local, regional, diocesan- and national structures help us to do ministry together so that we may serve God and the world.

The following section outlines basic regional and diocesan structure in the Diocese of Virginia.

Province III
The Diocese of Virginia is part of the Third Province of the Episcopal Church. The Province is governed by a Provincial Synod. Each Diocese elects deputies to represent the Diocese to the Synod.

Executive Board
The Executive Board is the governing body of the Diocese of Virginia in between sessions of Annual Council.
Standing Committee
The Standing Committee is a 12-member elected council of advice to the Bishop.
Deans
The Deans of the 15 regions of the Diocese of Virginia are appointed by the Bishop and are the Bishop’s representatives in each region. Together with the Presidents of the regions, they lead their regional council in ensuring the ministrations of the church area available to all persons in each region.
Regional Presidents
The Presidents of the 15 regions of the Diocese of Virginia are elected by each Regional Council. Each Regional Council is composed of members elected by the churches within each region. The Presidents work with the Deans of each region to convene the Regional Council and ensure the ministrations of the church are available to all persons within the region. Regional Councils also elect representatives to the Executive Board.

The Deans of the 15 regions of the Diocese of Virginia are appointed by the Bishop and are the Bishop’s representatives in each region.
