Medical & Dental Insurance

The Diocese of Virginia provides health insurance through the Church Medical Trust.  Effective January 1, 2013, General Convention Resolution A177 mandates that all employees working at least 1,500 hours annually must be provided some level of health insurance.

Life Insurance

We also offer Life Insurance through Church Insurance Company.  Late enrollments, after 30 days of employment, require a health statement and can be declined.

Short-Term Disability & Long-Term Disability

Church Insurance Company offers Short-Term and Long-Term disability insurance.  Details on their plans are available here.

Diocesan Long-Term Disability

The Diocese of Virginia has contracted directly with Mutual of Omaha to offer a long-term disability plan.  Effective January 1, 2010, this plan will now allow for either employer-paid insurance or employee-paid (gross-up) coverage.

  1. Employees must be working at least 20 hours/week
  2. Elimination Period is 90 days.  Benefits begin on day 91.
  3. Monthly benefit is 60% of monthly earnings, up to a maximum benefit of $5,000 per month.
  4. Maximum Period of Benefits is determined by the age at disability and normal retirement age as determined by Social Security.


The monthly rate is $0.31 per $100 of monthly salary per month.  This rate is guaranteed through 9/30/2012.
