Spotlight: Committee on Stewardship
The Diocese of Virginia's Committee on Stewardship comprises clergy and lay members committed to the teaching and practice of stewardship.
The committee’s purpose is to support each church seeking to strengthen its stewardship ministry. We hope the people of Virginia will grow in their understanding that all we have is a gift from a loving God. Such belief enables us to share generously the gifts which God so freely bestows on us.
The resources the Committee offers the Diocese of Virginia include:
-
Advice and consultation for Vestries and Stewardship Committees seeking to plan and implement stewardship programs
-
Committee members who will visit churches to speak about the theology and principles of stewardship
- Committee members who will teach adult and children’s classes, preach homilies, lead retreats, or train stewardship program participants at diocesan churches
-
Committee members who serve as liaisons to each diocesan region
-
A day long conference held annually in the early spring, featuring a well known stewardship speaker and workshops covering a variety of stewardship topics that change from year to year
The 2006 Conference keynoter was The Rt. Rev. John H. MacNaughton, retired Bishop of West Texas and author of More Blessed to Give. His keynote address will be available online shortly.
The Diocese of Virginia is a sustaining member of TENS, The Episcopal Network for Stewardship and the Committee on Stewardship can assist parishes in using the extensive resources available from TENS.
