Transformation Continues!

The new diocesan process for discernment and formation for leadership ministries, both lay and ordained, is taking root and beginning to bear fruit.

The first Diocesan Discernment Retreat held May 12-14, 2006, at Richmond Hill, and led by The Rev. Stephen H. Wade, was fully enrolled with 20 participants.

Already 15 of these participants have decided to enter a formal parish-based discernment process with the assistance of Diocesan Spiritual Discernment Facilitators.

Diocesan Discernment Retreats are planned for February, May and October each year. The October 13-15, 2006, retreat is already filling.

On May 19th, Bishop Lee was notified that the trustees of the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund made a grant to the Diocese of Virginia in the amount of $141,551, over three years. These funds will be used primarily to implement the new discernment process and the Episcopal Leadership Institute, which will focus on leadership formation of laity and deacons.

A comprehensive new manual, which will be web-based, should be available in the fall.

For more information please contact Peggy Hombs, Coordinator of the Ordination Process, at 1-800-DIOCESE, Ext.11 or phombs@thediocese.net.
