Spotlight: Stewardship Conference

The future of stewardship will be the focus at the 28th annual diocesan Stewardship Conference at Good Shepherd, Burke on March 24. Keynote speakers the Rev. Gary Nicolosi and the Rev. Canon J. Hugh Magers will offer their insight on this important aspect of parish life.

Mr. Nicolosi has been the rector of St. Peter’s, Morristown, N.J. since 2005. Mr. Nicolosi has been nationally recognized for his contributions in the areas of stewardship and congregational development through his many published articles and seminars in.  He is currently a regular presenter at Kirby Smith Stewardship in Action Conferences and will lead a workshop at the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes 2006 annual conference.

According to Mr. Nicolosi, “Stewardship is an age-old spiritual discipline, and while the basics remain the same, three elements might be deemed new or cutting edge.” His workshop will explore today’s conscious effort to connect stewardship with mission; the recognition that stewardship is ultimately a spiritual issue, not a financial one; and the idea that Church health is a prerequisite to church growth.

Mr. Magers served as director of stewardship and later director of evangelism at the Episcopal Church Center prior to his retirement, and since that time has been interim rector of several parishes in the dioceses of Texas and West Texas. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and the Virginia Theological Seminary, and attended the University of Texas Law School. A member of the board of directors of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship, Mr. Magers is well known as a consultant to dioceses and parishes in the areas of stewardship, evangelism and Hispanic ministry development.

Mr. Magers will discuss the need for new approaches to stewardship based on generational changes. According to Mr. Magers, “Those born in different decades do things differently. Understanding some of the formative influences on our different understandings and habits can help find the common ground and claim the asset some of those differences offer us.”

The registration fee for this event is $35 for registrations received before March 14 and $45 for those received March 14 or later. A box lunch is included in the registration fee. If you have questions, please call 1-800-DIOCESE x17.
