Spotlight: Celebrating Longevity

Sponsored by the diocesan Committee on Aging, the Celebration of Longevity will take place at Goodwin House, Alexandria on March 1. This annual event is celebrated in conjunction with Older American’s Month. Attendees who are over 90 years old will be honored with a certificate. Bishop Jones will join attendees at the service, which will be followed by a birthday party for all.

The Committee on Aging believes that aging is a natural human process which God has ordained as a time for continuing spiritual growth, and not a need or a problem which should be healed or cured. The Committee is dedicated to fostering ways to encourage older adults to live out their lives with purpose in the knowledge that all God’s children—whatever their age—are sustained by God’s grace. The Committee offers several events each year including Fall Camp at Shrine Mont and the Fifty Plus Wedding Celebration. The Committee also maintains a resource library on aging issues. The group supports family members of older adults and advocates within local and state government on behalf of aging issues. The Committee chair is the Rev. Marian Windel.

All are welcome to attend the Celebration of longevity. To RSVP, please contact Carol Thomson at 800-DIOCESE or cthomson@thediocese.net.
