Spotlight: Christian Education
Sim·ply ed·u·ca·tion
Merriam-Webster Online defines the following:
Simply: without ambiguity, CLEARLY; without embellishment, PLAINLY.
Education: the action of educating.
Educate: to provide schooling for; to develop mentally, morally or aesthetically especially by instruction.
Over the last two years the Christian Education Committee has worked to focus its mission on serving the churches of the Diocese with resources for Christian education. The committee has met directors of Christian education, directors of religious education, directors of formation, volunteer Sunday school teachers and paid staff in churches. The Committee brings people together to meet each other and share a meal in churches around the Diocese. The goal of these meals is to bring together the Committee and those who share the ministry.
Different ministries inform the Committee as to what resources would be helpful in the local churches. The meals themselves help bring neighboring churches together to share ideas and to support each other in frustrations and successes. The simplicity of these meetings led to the idea for the Committee’s next event. While the meals around the Diocese will continue this year, the Committee will also offer “Simply Education Day.”
“Simply Education Day” will be one day to look without embellishment at providing schooling for developing our congregations. To keep the gatherings small there will be one in Richmond at St. Mark’s and one in Alexandria at Immanuel-on-the-Hill, both on April 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Adult Ed: "How do we compete with Starbucks?"
Volunteers: “It takes the whole team.”
New DCE’s: “A full year in the life of the Church.”
VBS: “VBS: It’s not just for breakfast anymore.”
Christian Ed for Youth: “Preparing for an educated congregation.”
The same workshops will be offered in the morning and again in the afternoon. As has become our tradition, the meal will be a time for meeting others and sharing information with those share your ministry. The cost of the day is $10.
