Immigration
What You Can DoImmigration issues promise to be a hot topic again in the General Assembly in 2011. Already several bills have been filed, and more are expected, that will impact documented as well as undocumented immigrants in Virginia, and, according to the Virginia Interfaith Center on Public Policy, potentially could affect the outreach activities of congregations.
If you are interested in immigration issues, but don’t know where to start, here are some resources for you. The categories include theological study resources (including a one-page summary of the House of Bishops Theological Resource), as well as statements from several different faith perspectives; prayers and litanies; organizations involved in immigration advocacy; and a link on finding your legislators. There is also a movie that you can download and use, "We Are All Immigrants." And there is an outline of how you can do a 45-minute presentation in your own parish or organization on immigration advocacy.
If you have questions, need help or want a presenter on immigration advocacy, please contact the Rev. Lauren R. Stanley (703-678-3892).
